About
About GotTheology
Free verse-by-verse Bible commentary with Arminian and Reformed readings side by side—fair to both, close to the text.
Who runs GotTheology
Got-Theology.com is run by James Burgess from the Tyler, Texas area. It started from a simple frustration: most commentaries tell you what one tradition thinks, and you have to go hunting to hear the other side in its own words.
The mission
GotTheology walks through books of the Bible passage by passage and verse by verse. Every verse carries two short notes, one Arminian and one Reformed, set side by side so you can compare them directly. Where the traditions agree, we say so. Where they differ, we name the difference plainly and try to state each view the way its best teachers would.
The goal is understanding, not scorekeeping. We want Wesleyans to be able to recognize their own view in the Arminian column, Calvinists to recognize theirs in the Reformed column, and every reader to leave with a clearer view of the text itself.
Editorial approach
- The verse comes first. Each page shows the Scripture text before any commentary. Scripture quotations are from the World English Bible (WEB), a public-domain modern English translation.
- Historic voices. Notes draw on historic sources from both traditions, especially John Wesley’s Explanatory Notes and John Calvin’s commentaries, with other classic writers where helpful. Quotations are attributed to their authors.
- Human editorial review. Every passage is reviewed and edited before it is published, checking that each column is fair to its tradition and faithful to the verse.
- Corrections welcome. If a note misrepresents a tradition or misreads a verse, please tell us at info.got.theology@gmail.com. We fix errors.
